Hello there!
1. When I was 10 my mom and dad sat me down to have "The Talk." I remember thinking I was in trouble because I had to sit down on the couch across from my parents. I don't remember much about what we talked about (thank God) but I recall answering some awkward questions but more importantly, hearing the explanation that God made sex for a mommy and daddy who love each other so much and that, when done in the right context, it is beautiful! Also, my parents challenged me (even at such a young age and even though I hardly understood what I was hearing) to remain pure physically, spiritually, and emotionally (before the Lord and for my future husband) until I got married. Soon after we had "The Talk" my parents took me to a jewelry store to get a Purity Ring. I remember picking out the one I wanted and feeling so special that I got a real diamond ring! It represented my commitment to my parents and to God that I would remain pure until I got married and by the grace of God, I did! I wore that ring until it was replaced with my engagement ring but I still have it! I appreciate my parents for doing this with me and my husband and I plan on doing this with our future kids.
2. I believe I was 11 or 12yrs old when I remember seeing my brother bent over on his knees holding his face with a puddle of blood under him. I was so scared and didn't know what to do! Just a few minutes before I was still lying in bed at my friends house when my brothers friend ran over frantically calling for me to say my brother had gotten bitten by his dog. I ran over as fast as I could and as I shot through the door my heart was broken. My poor baby brother(who was 9yrs old) was crying and scared and in pain. My mom and dad were at work so my friends mom, Mrs. Miller, called 911 and the paramedics were on their way. Once they got there I remember they had to put my brother on the stretcher and when he sat up blood was pouring down his face. I felt helpless and wanted to comfort my brother but thought I would get in trouble for being in the way of the paramedics so I had to leave him there on the ambulance by himself. We followed my brother all the way to the emergency room at the Children's Hospital in Denver where I would soon meet my parents. My brother was checked in and we waited for hours for someone to be available to stitch him up. The dog had bitten right by his tear duct all the way down his cheek and also straight through his bottom lip. It took 53 stitches to close him up and a few years of clearing infections, plastic surgery, and scar sanding so it's not that noticeable. If you saw him now you wouldn't even notice his scar but it sure scarred his heart and my heart! We will never forget that day!
3. Now to end on a happy note, when I was turning 13 my parents set up an awesome "Father- Daughter Birthday Date" that I would go on for becoming a teenager!! We went to the store so I could pick out a really pretty dress that I would wear to a fancy dinner. The day of my birthday my mom curled my hair and put on some light make up so I would look pretty for my special birthday date! My dad borrowed my grandparents awesome convertible Mercedes Benz and off we went to Maggiano's! I truly felt like a princess! Once we arrived to the restaurant I realized there were other girls there with really pretty dresses as well (it was prom night for the high schoolers). Once we sat down I went to the restroom and as I was washing my hands this lady asked me if I was going to prom and I said "no, it's my 13th birthday and my dad brought me here on a date for becoming a teenager." I felt so proud! After dinner we walked a couple blocks in Denver when we saw a gentleman with a horse and buggy. My dad asked if I wanted a ride and I excitedly said yes. Now I really felt like a princess!! Once the ride was over we went to the car and went for a cruz with the top down. Everyone in Denver was looking at us so I felt pretty awesome! Soon after our drive we got home and I went to bed. My 13yr old princess birthday celebration was over but I will never forget it!
