Welcome to Africa

Jambo from Africa!!

We made it and we're loving it! Wow, Kenya is so different from America. I know you hear that all the time but it's true.  Kenya is different than all of the ways I expected it to be different. It kind of reminds of how it would be in Jesus' time. The market is busy and full of fresh fruit and everyone walks everywhere! The streets are covered in people and some of the sidewalks have random cows and chickens roaming. The market place booths are made out of pieces of wood and tin and some of the houses are made out of mud. Everyone is so friendly and all of the kids come up and shake your hand and say "how are you?" We feel sweaty all the time (even when we sleep) and there is hardly any relief from dirt. Even though the conditions are rough here, we are falling in love with this country. It really is an experience in itself. But what makes it all worth it is the orphans!

Yesterday we visited the orphanage for the first time and OH MY GOSH our hearts melted! As we drove up to the gate the kids ran up to us to greet and every one of them shook our hands and told us their names. Some of them held onto our hands and wouldn't let go until we left. They climbed in our laps, played games with us, and wouldn't get off of our shoulders and hips for hours. Needless to say, our arms were sore and tired after leaving that place.

Time is so slow here. Every day feels like two days and everything you do takes twice as long than it does in America, but it makes us really appreciate the simplicity of life here and makes us stand back and see how fast life is in America. Taking time to just rest and be in community and to enjoy where we are has been so refreshing. We are loving our time here and will keep you guys updated more as we go!

P.S. Please enjoy our travel photos and the photos from our safari!!
